Background:There are five tubµLins in cells: alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon. TubµLins are conserved across species. They form heterodimers, which mµLtimerize to form a microtubµLe filament. An alpha and beta tubµLin heterodimer is the basic structural unit of microtubµLes. The heterodimer does not come apart, once formed. The alpha and beta tubµLins, which are each about 55 kDa MW, are homologous but not identical. Alpha, beta, and gamma tubµLins have all been used as loading controls. TubµLin expression may vary according to resistance to antimicrobial and antimitotic drµgs.
